Background
Since before the Sundering Wars, the Gornya have been the main source of new technology and high precision equipment. Their forges and smiths are the best in the world, due to an almost reverential attention to detail and a sense of pride in craftsmanship.
Government
The ruling body of the Gornya nation is a panel of 9 Greater Magistrates called the Telya. Laws are passed through precedent, with a new law only coming into effect as a direct result of a dispute between two parties, the ruling for the victor being the final law enacted. Greater Magistrates are elected for life, but can be removed for various reasons by a unanimous vote of the other 8 Greater Magistrates, or by a 3/4 vote by the Minor Magistrates.
At the local level, each town has its own 9 Minor Magistrates, who determine local laws and are tasked with enforcing them. The same rules apply at the local level as the Greater Magistrates. Aside from determining local laws, they also meet whenever a Greater Magistrate dies or is removed to elect one of their own to the higher seat. This process is highly secretive, and by law can take up to 18 days (See: Teyla Ruling).
Rule of Ka-Mol
In the year 1462 FK, a Minor Magistrate named Ka-Mol was elected to the Telya. After 2 years on the Telya, he declared himself "First" of the Teyla, and called for a return to the days of high technology. He used his position to attain great wealth, which he used to sponsor the School Of The Ages, whose mission was to excavate and document the many ruins from the Sundering Wars.
In 1477 FK, a researcher at the School Of The Ages, using ancient technology and documents, restored power to one of the library robots found in the ruins. From this library robot came enough information to recreate a large amount of ancient devices, a large amount of which were tools of war. Factories began producing robots of all varieties, as well as transport vehicles and new communications devices.
Expansion and Consolidation
The newly created robots augmented the traditional army as it began expanding the borders outward. Through a series of border skirmishes, intimidation tactics, and legal acquisitions, the Gornya nation almost doubled in size, encompassing some of the largest ruins from the Sundering Wars. Ka-Mol, wary of drawing the attention of King Tol, stopped his expansionist efforts, focusing instead of securing the hearts and minds of the Gornya.
After Ka-Mol's Disappearance
in 1479 FK, Ka-Mol disappeared and was presumed dead. One of the Greater Magistrates installed under Ka-Mol's reign attempted to declare himself "First", but was voted out by the Minor Magistrates after only 2 weeks. While the government had issues adjusting to the new technology, and the problems it created, Gornya industry adapted very quickly. By 1490 FK, over 75% of factories had become fully automated, and were turning out increasing amounts of gadgets. Due to the expense of the new technology, factories began operating as small self-contained cities, complete with internal police forces and laws.
